A win-win tie-up for polys and businesses
April 25, 2008 The Straits Times

ASKnLearn CEO Mr Yee Jenn Jong was featured in Singapore’s Straits Times on April 25.

The article reported on the positive relationships being formed between business and institutes of higher learning in Singapore. The piece, featured on page one and two of the national daily, cited examples of technology developed by Singapore and Ngee Ann polytechnics that are assisting private business ventures.

Speaking of ASKnLearn’s Learning Management System (LMS) system first developed in 1999 by Ngee Ann, Mr Yee described it as a “godsend” that put his company on the dot.com map. “The technology gave a young company like ours the edge we needed”.

Last month the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council (RIEC), formed in 2006 and Chaired by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, announced polytechnics will get a cut of this year's $1billion funding to let them take bigger steps into the business world.

$125 million has been allocated to boost technology transfer.

Now in its eighth year, ASKnLearn has clients in more than 120 schools both Singapore and the region with an annual turnover of $7 million.
