What is Pop-up blocker?

Pop-up Blocker is a feature in Internet Explorer that lets you limit or block most pop-ups. You can choose the level of blocking you prefer, from blocking all pop-up windows to allowing the pop-ups that you want to see. When Pop-up Blocker is turned on, you will get an Information bar message saying Pop-up blocked. To see this pop-up or additional options click here.

Why do I need to configure my software settings?

How do I turn Pop-up Blocker on/off?

For Internet Explorer 6/7

Pop-up Blocker is turned on in Internet Explorer by default. To turn it off or to turn it on again if you've already turned it off, follow these steps:

To turn Pop-up Blocker on or off
1. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Pop-up Blocker.



2. Do one of the following:

• To turn off Pop-up Blocker, click Turn Off Pop-up Blocker
• To turn on Pop-up Blocker, click Turn On Pop-up Blocker.

To stop the Information bar from blocking file and software downloads

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab, and then click Custom level.
4. Do one or both of the following:

• To turn off the Information bar for file downloads, scroll to the Downloads section of the list, and then, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Enable.
• To turn off the Information bar for ActiveX controls, scroll to the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section of the list, and then, under Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls, click Enable.

5. Click OK, click Yes to confirm that you want to make the change, and then click OK again.

For Mozilla Firefox 2.0

In Mozilla Firefox, by default Pop-Up blocking is enabled. To turn it off, follow these steps:

1. In Mozilla Firefox, click the Tools button, and then click Options button.



2. Click on the small checkbox and un-tick it.

How can I choose to allow Pop-ups from a specific website?

When you install SP2, Pop-up Blocker is turned on in Internet Explorer and set to the medium setting, which means it will block most automatic pop-ups. The default settings for the pop-up blocker allow you to see pop-ups that are opened when you click a link or button on a Web site. Pop-up Blocker will also play a sound and show the Information Bar when a pop-up is blocked. You can adjust these settings so that Pop-up Blocker works the way you want it to.

2. On the Tools menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings



If you want to see pop-up windows from a specific Web site, type the address (or URL) of the site in the Address of Web site to allow box, and then click Add.

How to disable Google Toolbar Pop-up blocker

The Google Toolbar includes pop-up blocking. If you'd like to completely disable the Pop-up blocker, follow the version-specific instructions below.

1. Click the wrench icon to open the Options window.
2. Select the Tools tab.
3. Uncheck the box next to Pop-up blocker.
4. Click OK.

How to disable Yahoo! toolbar Pop-up Blocker

For Internet Explorer

There are two ways to uninstall the Yahoo! Toolbar for Internet Explorer.

Option 1: Via the toolbar

1. Select Uninstall from the Pencil button (Toolbar Settings).
2. Click Uninstall on the uninstall page.
3. Close any open IE windows.

When you restart Internet Explorer, Yahoo! Toolbar will no longer be present.

Option 2: Via the Control Panel

1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. Select Control Panel from the Settings menu.
3. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
4. Scroll down and click on the Yahoo! Toolbar entry.
5. Click on Change/Remove.
6. Close any open IE windows.

Yahoo! Toolbar is now uninstalled. Please start Internet Explorer again after closing all your open Internet Explorer browser windows and it will no longer be present.

For Mozilla Firefox

There are two ways to remove the Yahoo! Toolbar for Mozilla Firefox.

♦ The easiest way is to use the Uninstall menu item:

1. Click the Pencil menu.
2. Click Uninstall.
3. Enter any feedback you'd like to send to Yahoo! about why you're uninstalling the toolbar.
4. Click Uninstall.
5. Restart your browser.


♦ If that doesn't work, you can also use the Extension Manager in Firefox to remove the Yahoo! Toolbar extension:

1. Click the Tools menu in the Firefox browser.
2. Click the Extensions menu item.
3. In the Extensions Manager window scroll until you find the Yahoo! Toolbar extension.
4. Click the Yahoo! Toolbar extension.
5. Click Uninstall.
6. Click OK in the Uninstall Yahoo! Toolbar window.
7. Exit Extensions Manager and restart your browser.

Either one of these methods will uninstall Yahoo! Toolbar from your browser. If neither works, your user profile is corrupt. You might need to create a new user profile for your browser.
