How do I Enable Sending Referrers?

Unfortunately, there may not be simple straight forward answer. Listed below are methods to enable this function, so please check both what is listed for your browser and also your firewall.

Internet Explorer 6 and 7

This can be done from the computer's Control Panel » Internet Options, or from within the browser :Tools » Internet Options

1. Click Security » Trusted Sites » Sites

2. Add Edulearn’s website address in the box provided and click Add (Uncheck the box that requires https verification)

3. Click the Privacy tab (Medium is an acceptable setting on the slider) » Sites, and again enter your website address) » Allow

4. Click Apply


This has only altered settings for your website and this does not otherwise affect your browsing.

Norton Internet Security

Firewalls Can Prevent Web Pages From Displaying Properly


By default, Norton Internet Security (NIS) and Norton Personal Firewall (NPF) block this referrer information. In order to allow referrer information to pass to a particular Website, you must create a rule for it.

To create a rule for Norton's NIS/NPF 2003 or NIS/NPF 2004, follow the instructions below:

Step 1: Start Norton Internet Securityor Norton Personal Firewall
Step 2: On your Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall, click Privacy Control » Advanced or click Options » Internet Security » Web Content
Step 3: At the bottom of the Advanced window, click Add Site
Step 4: In the New Site/Domain box, type the name of the site that you want to receive the referrer information, and click OK. The site name appears in the left frame of the Options window
Step 5: Click the name of the new site
Step 6: Next, click on Global Settings tab » Information about visited sites section » uncheck Use default settings
Step 7: Click Permit
Step 8: Click OK to close the Options window


Alternatively, you can do the following,

Turn off Auto-Protect temporarily
  • Right-click the Auto-Protect icon, which is located by the clock in the Windows system tray.
  • Click Disable.

→For Norton AntiVirus 2005: Click on Options popup window » select the period for which you want Auto-Protect turned off » click OK.
A red circle with a slash through its center appears, which indicates that Auto-Protect is disabled.

Turn off Auto-Protect permanently
  • In the system tray, double-click the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect icon

  • From the Norton AntiVirus window, click Options » Norton AntiVirus

  • Next, click on System, ensure that Auto-Protect is selected
For this dialog box, Auto-Protect is the default selection

  • Next, click on How to stay protected » untick Turn Auto-Protect on (recommended)» OK

  • Next, from the Select the duration drop-down menu, select Until system restart, and click OK

  • From the Norton AntiVirus window, click the Close button

Zone Alarm Pro

Zone Alarm Pro blocks referrer information and certain types of cookies that are needed to verify your access to Edulearn resources. Follow these steps in Zone Alarm Pro for access.


→ For Zone Alarm Pro Version 3, do the following:


Step 1: Open Zone Alarm Pro
Step 2: In Zone Alarm Pro, select Privacy
Step 3: Next, click on Cookie Control » Custom

Step 4: In Custom Privacy Settings, uncheck the box that say Remove private header information
Step 5: Click OK

→ For Zone Alarm Pro Version 4, do the following:


Step 1: Repeat the above Steps 1, 2 and 3
Step 2: Make sure the box labeled "Block Persistent Cookies" is not checked
Step 3: Make sure the box labeled "Block Third Party Cookies" is not checked
Step 4: Make sure the box labeled "Remove Private Header Information" is not checked

McAfee

In the system tray in the lower right corner,
Step 1: Look for the M icon. Right Click.
Step 2: Click Privacy Service » Open Privacy Service

Step 3: Look on the right for the heading I want to...
Step 4: Under the heading, click Control Access to Cookies
Step 5: Click on Accept for cookies from Third-party sites
Step 6: Next, click the Clean Slate tab in the upper right
Step 7: Next, Uncheck Prevent referer at the bottom of the screen
Step 8: Click Apply » Okay
Step 9: Close any remaining McAfee windows
